Akwa Ibom: VVF Hospital Equips Survivors for Self-Reliance

By Freshgist

The Family Life Centre/VVF Hospital, Mbribit Itam, Akwa Ibom State, has taken another step in its fight against social stigma and economic hardship for Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) survivors by providing vocational training, start-up funds, and complete tailoring kits to three beneficiaries.

At a weekend send-forth ceremony, the women including Itoro Sunday Akpan, Eno Idio Otong, and Emmanuella Edwin Ekaem were presented with sewing machines, weaving machines, mannequins, mirrors, fabrics, showglass, irons, hangers, ₦100,000 each, and a one-year paid shop rent.

Matron of the hospital, Sr. Maria Obotamah, said the empowerment programme aims to restore dignity and ensure that survivors can support themselves and their families.

“This is more than economic empowerment; it is the restoration of hope and confidence,” she said.

Hospital Administrator Sr. Rosemary Akpa noted that VVF treatment at the centre includes surgery, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society, with skill acquisition training lasting up to two years.

The Family Life Centre/VVF Hospital, founded in 1990 by the late Sr. Dr. Ann Ward, remains Nigeria’s first dedicated VVF treatment facility. Despite its impact, the hospital continues to face funding shortages, limited bed space, and rising medical costs.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the hospital, donors, and the Keith and Gay Talbot Trust for the support, describing it as a life-changing opportunity.

The event featured goodwill messages, testimonies, and commendations from dignitaries for the hospital’s work in rehabilitating women and combating VVF in Nigeria.

HENSEK: Building a Legacy of Excellence

   By Samuel Udoma

During my last visit to Akwa Ibom, I traverse through some road projects being handled by HENSEK, and was very impressed by the company's delivery finesse. Having already delivered iconic roads such as the Ring Road 3,   Airport Road expansion, and numerous others, it caught me with less of a surprise because HENSEK Integrated Services had already etched its name in the pantheon of engineering excellence.

In the ever-evolving landscape of Nigeria's construction industry, HENSEK stands out for its unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. With a reputation for delivering top-notch projects that surpass client expectations, HENSEK has established itself as a leader in the field, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in building and infrastructure development.

For instance, along the 7.8KM Ring Road III extension, linking from Idoro road to Ikot Ekpene road, one of the many projects being undertaken by HENSEK, one could notice the attention to fine details. The site preparation is wide, a composite pavement layer for the subbase, base course and the ensuing surface course; well chiseled drainage channels, formidable earth work. Whilst the project is not even completed yet, one could still feel the depth of quality being put in.

HENSEK's journey is a testament to the power of vision, hard work, and dedication. From its inception, the company has prioritized quality, safety, and client satisfaction, earning it a succession of strong clientele and patronage, matched by string of successful projects across various sectors. Whether it's residential, commercial, or industrial construction, HENSEK's expertise shines through in every detail, from foundation to completion.

What sets HENSEK apart is its forward-thinking approach to construction. The company has embraced cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices, ensuring that its projects are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly and cost-effective. This commitment to innovation has positioned HENSEK at the forefront of the industry, making the brand a go-to partner for clients seeking modern, efficient, and sustainable  construction solutions.

Behind HENSEK's success is a team of highly skilled professionals who bring years of experience and expertise to every project. From architects and engineers to project managers and artisans, each member of the HENSEK family is dedicated to delivering exceptional results. Their collective passion for construction and commitment to excellence are the driving forces behind the company's continued growth and success.

Steering the ship of this powerhouse is Engr. Uwem Stephen Okoko  - a  fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Engr. Okoko, popularly known by his company's name, HENSEK, himself, a tireless work station. Engr. Okoko's work ethic, practicality and the ability to deliver within time has earned him a strong reputation within the industry, and the secular world.

As Nigeria continues to develop and urbanize, the demand for quality construction services will only increase. HENSEK Integrated Services is well-positioned to meet this demand, with a pipeline of notable projects already under its belt. With its firm indigenous foundation, and a commitment to excellence, HENSEK is poised for even greater success. The company will remain a driving force in Nigeria's construction industry for years to come.
