Foundation gives 1075 persons free health care in S/East, South South

 

Beneficiaries of Free medical outreach from Dr Modesty Foundation

A United States of America based Foundation under the auspices of Dr Modesty care foundation has provided free medical care to over one thousand persons in South East and South South Nigeria suffering from various diseases.

The Foundation also provides free Solar Panel for Street Lighting in different  streets in various Autonomous communities in South Eastern Nigeria through its programmes tagged "Lighting  Africa" to augment power infrastucture in rural communities in Nigeria . 

Speaking with our Correspondent in Uyo over the weekend, the Chief Executive Officer of Dr Modesty Care Foundation Dr. Modesty Echefula Onwemadu said the Organization will capture the needs of people in the South East and South Nigeria in areas such as Education , Human capital Development and general empowerment . 

Onwemadu; an American based Medical Doctor and indigene of Umuchulu  Autonomous community in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state explained that the Foundation was borne out of passion to assist the people of South East/ South South in tackling health challenges and other needs of the people. 

" As a prince being the son of a King , I saw what my father was doing to help the people . I followed his footsteps to redeem my people."

He listed diseases treated during the free medical outreach which took place at Community Central School Amala in Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo state to include Hapatitis, checking of vital signs , malaria / Typhoid treatment, management of Arthistis / Hypertension. 

" I told my colleagues in the United States that medicine is not all about healing. I also told them that medicine does not end in the hospital . When people are hungry and you give them food to eat ; that food becomes the medicine " 

He said the foundation will provide financial assistance , Human Capital Development, Education and general empowerment in the next 10 years 

" I have awarded scholarship to students in  my community , give financial assistance to those who want to do business and now I am providing health care for the people. I also procure solar power panels to lighten up the streets which I would extend to neigboring states such as AKwa Ibom , Abia , Cross River etc " 

He therefore urged government and other donor Agencies  to partner with the Foundation to touch lives if the people positively.

" Government is a big Enterprise . It has so much to give to the people without resources to execute her plan . I need more people to join me in this charity work across South East and South South Nigeria" he said 

One of the beneficiaries of the medical outreach His Royal Highness Eze Simeon Nwaju Obiogu 1 of Amala Autonomous community who accompanied the Foundation to AKwa Ibom said the medical outreach was one of the best things that happened to him and the entire people of the area . 

" I had stroke in the last 4 years and was battling to treat myself before the intervention from Dr Modesty Care Foundation. Now I am fine . God bless him " 

One of the Volunteers who working in the Foundation Chiamaka Ezeh said the outreach brought drugs from foreign manufacturers with high potency to treat all the patients . 

" Drugs administered to patients were high quality that facilitated quick recovery of patients "

However , the Coordinator of the Foundation in Akwa Ibom Comrade Udeme James has addured Akwa Ibom people that the  medical outreach will be extended to AKwa Ibom people . 

He urged the organization to consider Akwa Ibom in the next phase of the outreach so that the south south zone will partake in the gesture .

Seeks micro zoning for justice, equity, fair play in 2023 general election 

The people of Itu mbonuso Clan in ward 3, Ini Local Government Area has on Saturday cried out to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu,  the Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State, Gov Udom Emmanuel, the State  Chairman of PDP, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan and the  leadership of Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) in Akwa Ibom State  over what they described as political suppression and cross marginalisation of their people in the zoning of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency Seat between Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas while seeking micro zoning in 2023 as it is the turn of Ini people to produce the next National Assembly Member in the federal constituency.

The people lamented that never in the history of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency Seat sharing formula have they been given a chance to present their people to represent the federal constituency despite the number of high profile Personalities in Itumbonuso Clan as such act is undermining the principles of zoning of political offices in the area which also contributed to the high level of underdevelopment in Itumbonuso clan without having any political office holder from their place to hold accountable for the poverty situation of the place.

  

In an interview with some Journalists in Ini LG, the Clan Head of Itu mbonuso, His Royal Highness Joshua Ise while crying to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the leadership of the Maintain Peace Movement (MPM), the widely endorsed and acceptable incoming Successor of Gov Udom Emmanuel, Past. Umoh Eno and other political stakeholders, disclosed that his people despite their contributions to the development of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency as the food basket of Akwa Ibom State  suffered an age long political neglect which if not properly addressed may render the Maintain Peace Movement advocacy of Akwa Ibom State Government  an exercise in futility.

According to him, "I called on Gov Udom Emmanuel who is a product of zoning, equity and justice to look into our situation so that we can have a political office holder in Itumbonuso clan that we can look-up to in regards to the abject poverty situation in my clan. 

"My people are drinking water from dirty pon, we do not have pipe born water in this clan, no power supply at all, there is an abject poverty level here in Itumbonuso, no good road network but in other places here in Ini LGA, it is not the same, my neighboring village here, Ikpe ward 2 is like London" he cried out.

Similarly, the village head of Nchana Ebua in Itumbonuso, Ini LGA,

Eteidung Jeremiah Akpan lamented on the poor situation of Itumbonuso.

Akpan said the solution to the problem of the community is to have a son of the soil  in Government 

to represent Ikono/Ini federal constituency and drag development down to all nooks and crannies of Ikono/Ini - in the likes of  Ita Ukpabio who is sympathetic to their plight of his Community as he often times uses his had earned resources for the development of the area.

 

He urged the people  not misquote him on partisanship in politics but rather join force in support of Itumbonuso plight.

According to him, "I'm the village head of Nchana Ebua and the problem of Itumbonuso is that we don't have people in government since the regime of Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio,  we don't have representative that's why development do not come to us, our few sons and daughters have done their best, like Ita Ukpabio.

Similarly, the immediate Past State Organizing Secretary III of the Peoples Democratic Party and Former Executive Vice Chairman of Ini LGA, Hon. Dickson Abasiekong called on his people to ensure that the truth is not suppressed and that Ini people should ensure that Justice is done to Itumbonuso people in the sharing formula of the National Assembly Seat.

 He cried out to the National Chairman of PDP, Sen Iyorchia Ayu, the Leader of the Party in Akwa Ibom State, Gov Udom Emmanuel, State Chairman of the Party Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan and that of the Maintain Peace Movement to please give directive to the zoning of political offices in Ini.

His words, " the National Chairman of our party had earlier said that the party will adhere to the principles of zoning, fair play and equity in the sense that any area that had produced a political office holder should not bring out candidate for the party again.

"In the case of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom State concerning the seat of the National Assembly coming to Ini Local Government Area, it is zone to Ini LGA and the proper place to produce the House of Assembly Candidate should be Ini Proper with special preference to Itumbonuso ward 3 while the State House of Assembly should be zoned to Odoro Ikono."

Furthermore, the Ini  PDP former Youth Leader of the party, Mr. Lawrence Nse, popularly known as Ikemba affirmed that it's high time the party  recognized Itumbonuso ward 3  in Ini proper  because other wards like Ikpe ward 2 had produced the National Assembly Member for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in person of Prof. Ini Udoka for two terms of eight years and currently a Serving commissioner in person of Dr. Glory Edet who have served for 13 years in the State Executive Council now is from there including about 4 SSA to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Permanent Secretaries, The Chapter Chairman of PDP in Ini LGA, are all from Ikpe ward 2 in Ini proper.

"The Vice Chairman of Ini LGA is from ward 1 in Ini Proper political blog together with other political office holders,

"Then if you go to Iwere ward 5 in Ini proper zone, the current state house of Assembly Member and Chief Whip of AKHA in person of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Bassey, AKA Irag is from there, The immediate Past Council Chairman of Ini LGA in person of Hon. Etetem Awatim who served the council for about 6 years is also from there together with other political office holders. Nkari ward 4 in our zone here has many SSA's to the Governor but here we do not have any political office holder, why is it so? When we are part of Akwa Ibom State, we call on the God of Justice to deliver Ita Ukpabio for us as he is our only hope for now."

Militants issue one month ultimatum to Gov Emmanuel rescind decision on Umo Eno

Militants under the aegis of 'Unyekisong Akwa Ibom' have given Governor Udom Emmanuel one month ultimatum to rescind his endorsement of Pastor  Umo Eno as his successor.

Though they did not expressly mention the action they will take, the militants, however, said they will not fold their hands and watch the governor impose a governor on the people of the state.

In a statement titled 'Unyekisong Ibom Reject Imposition of POS Governor', We and signed by General Ekpo Ekpo, Commander Akan Bassey and Commander Sampson Umanah, the militants insisted that Akwa Ibom people must be allowed to elect their next governor.

They criticized Governor Emmanuel over his recent endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno as his successor, saying the action was a huge threat to the People's Democratic Party family and the entire state.

The statement obtained by the newsmen in Uyo recently reads in part, "The Coalition of all Freedom Fighters and pressure group in Akwa Ibom state have been meeting for the past few days to review the current political situation in state/endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno by Governor Udom Emmanuel as the next governor of Akwa Ibom.

"Unyekisong Akwa Ibom totally rejects and condemn the endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno as the next governor of Akwa Ibom state by Governor Udom Emmanuel and state strongly that this is unacceptable.

"The endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno is not only a threat to the PDP family but the entire state which will bring anarchy, insecurity and killings. The nomination of a particular candidate by the governor and leader of the party is totally unjust and unfair to other governorship aspirants in the state.

"After carefully studying the report submitted by credible sources, we have come to the conclusion that the endorsement of Pastor Umo Eno is not for the benefit of the state but would rather serve as a POS and commissioner to Mr. Udom Emmanuel after leaving office to siphon money.

"We therefore give the Governor one month ultimatum to withdraw his support for Pastor Umo Eno, go back to the drawing board and do proper consultations before making further statements concerning his successor, failure shall be disastrous as we will not fold our arms and watch his imposition unchallenged".

They called on political leaders, traditional rulers, elders, women, youths and entire masses of the state to get their PVCs to enable them fight any form of imposition in 2023.

USAID partners with A'Ibom govt for good governance in 2 years

The United States Agency for International Development ( USAID) has on Thursday  said that partnered with Akwa Ibom state government to enhance transparency , accountability and good governance in the last two years. 

Speaking at Ibom Icon Hotels, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state capital, during a two days training workshop organized by the Agency for Members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly , the state Team Lead - USAID state Accountability , Transparency and effective State2state Activity for Akwa Ibom, Mr Borve Paago- Imabel disclosed that the Agency has worked with state government to bring good governance and accountability in the state.

He listed achievements of the Agency in the last two years to include : Development of State Budget Calender , Standard Operations Manual for PFM MDAs and  development of the Medium Term Expenditure Framework for 2022-2024 Fiscal Years . 

Others include full migration of the 2022 state budget to the National Charts of Accounts template with support from Nigeria Governor's Forum, support to Akwa Ibom state Internal Revenue Services in revenue expansion as well as state communication strategy.

He said the workshop was the beginning of a strategic engagement of the state House of Assembly for reforms in governance envisaged by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) 

"This activity marks the commencement of a strategic engagement process with the State House of Assembly which will define and drive a need driven technical support process to this all important arm of government under the United State Agency for International Development -USAID’s flagship governance reforms activity-State Transparency, Accountability and Effectiveness Activity."

He appreciated the state governor Udom Emmanuel for provision of befitting office for the Agency as well as formation of state Transformation Committee headed by the Commissioner of Finance Mr Linus Nkan 

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly Hon Aniekan Bassey appealed to USAID for proper time to engage all members in subsequent training, and ensure that the location is out of the state.

Represented by the House Committee chairman on finance and Appropriation Hon Uduak Odudo , the speaker maintained that the activities of USAID is noted in the state within a short period and urged the Agency to continue in their good work for better governance. 

One of the participants Hon Mark Esset representing Nsit Atai State constituency said the workshop have helped members of the Assembly to refresh on their oversight functions. 

He therefore appealed to the Agency to always hold such workshop outside the state to avoid destruction .

Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northeast, and governorship aspirant, Sen. Albert Akpan has called on his teeming supporters and members of the People's Democratic Party, PDP to have faith that the will of God will be done in 2023 gubernatorial race.

Akpan spoke yesterday when he consulted stakeholders of Itu local government area to intimate them that his governorship aspiration was still intact, even though the governor has endorsed another aspirant Pastor Umo Eno to succeed him.

Akpan described Gov Emmanuel as a good man and should be pitied, rather than being vilified, because he was unfortunately being misled by some selfish persons.

He urged the people not to feel discouraged that the governor did not pick his preferred successor from Itu/Ibiono federal consituency, but to remain steadfast in faith as God has the final say.

His words, "Honestly speaking, I believe that governorship position of Akwa Ibom  come 2023 is there for us to take. Akwa Ibom people stands for equity, justice and fairness. And Etinan, and Uyo federal constituencies have had their turns 

" I can assure that God will give the next governor to Itu/Ibiono federal consituency. 

 I believe that the same God that blesses the work of our hands will bless us this time around. All we need to do is to pray for the will of God to be done.

FORMER Emir Of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Ii

Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has recently, called on all 2023 Presidential Candidates in the country, to be ready to face multiple of problems compared to what President Muhammadu Buhari faced in 2015, when he took over power from former President Goodluck Jonathan, Page 36 learnt.

Sanusi spoke in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, at a reception for him, as part of the activities marking the 80th birthday of the Babanla Adinni of Egbaland, Chief Tayo Sowunmi.

His exact words: “To be honest, we are living on extra time. In 2015, we were in a deep hole. In 2023, we will be in an even much deeper hole than in 2015.

“Those struggling to be President, I hope they understand that the problems that they are going to face are multiples of the problems that were faced in 2015. All of us have to be ready for difficult decisions, and if they are taken, we are all going to pay for them.

“But the solution is not for all of us to jump into politics. This country needs good Politicians. It needs Imams, Pastors, and Bishops, who are going to stand up and remind them (Politicians) of the fear of God. It needs Technocrats who are going to critique their policies. It needs Traditional Rulers who are going to speak as the conscience of the people. Everyone has a role to play, and we should try to play that role to the best of our ability.”

Speaking further, Sanusi, however, denied eyeing the 2023 Presidency, saying that, he is content being the Spiritual Leader of the Tijaniyyah.

He noted that he has served in various capacities, both in the past and present, will forever be grateful to Allah.

Security agents nab four school girls for allegedly possessing human heads in Lagos

Four girls, who are said to be secondary school students in Lagos State, were reportedly apprehended with human parts hidden in their school bags in Lagos

The young girls were said to have been discovered after a taxi driver who carried them raised the alarm that he perceived foul odour from his cab.

According to the report, the driver handed the girls to the gateman of the school and when their school bags were checked, human heads were found inside.

Law enforcement officers reportedly swung into action and the girls were arrested.

The incident is coming at a time when the prevalence of ritual killing among youths is in the limelight.

Only a few weeks ago, there was a national uproar when four teenage boys in Ogun State were caught in the act performing money ritual after they had beheaded the girlfriend of one of the members of the gang.

The young boys who claimed they had got the procedures for the ritual via Facebook were burning the young girl’s head in a pot when they were caught.

Also in Bayelsa State, two minors, both aged 15 were caught trying to use a 14-year-old girl for rituals.

Popular show host and broadcaster, Frank Edoho, has been announced as the host of the television game show, Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

The announcement was made at an event at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, to intimate journalists and members of the public about the return of the popular show which went off the air in 2017.

According to the organisers, the ultimate prize to be won on the show is now N20m, and it would be broadcast for 52 weeks.

Tagged ‘The Rebirth’, another addition to the show will see contestants able to use a ‘lifeline’ of ‘asking the host’ whenever they get stuck.

Other lifelines on the show are ’50-50’, ‘Call a Friend’, and ‘Ask the Audience’.

Recall that Edoho had hosted the show from its inception on October, 8, 2004, until September 2, 2017.

At that time, he had announced on Twitter that he would no longer host the show because he did not reach an agreement with the organisers of the show on certain conditions.

More than 320 Disable persons comprising of muslims widows and Christian Communities of  Akwa Ibom have benefitted from welfare empowerment programme of His Divine Redeemed World Ministry at Mkpok in Onna local government area of the state.  

The General Overseer of His Divine Redeemed World Ministries, Apostle Dr. Elijah Jack has been in the act of giving back to the less privileged not only in his church but to the less privileged  muslims, declared that muslim are still God's creation.

Items given to the less privileged across various religious beliefs include wheel chairs , food items and cash donations to enable them set up small scale businesses. 

In an interview with Journalist over the weekend, the General Overseer disclosed that what informed his decision to be giving in such a manner was a burden impressed on him by God to reach out to the poor adding that  he feels fulfilled each time he executes that mandate.

Speaking after distributing 15 wheel chairs, crutches, bags of rice, T-shirts and cash gifts to the disabled, widows and other less privileged at his church auditorium in Mkpok , Onna local government area of the state, Apostle Elijah said the cash gift was to enable them set up small scale businesses and the wheel chairs to ameliorate their sufferings.

According to him, "We are here for the move of God to show love especially to people that are incapacitated. By God grace we have been showing love to the people of the community, feeding the widows and orphans just as the scripture says. 

Apostle Jack said he had decided to provided 15 first grade wheelchairs which cost more than N100,000  each,  78 clutches,  10bags of Rice, sovenaire gifts, polo T-shirts, and cash gifts to the less privileged after much prayers on them . 

"Previously I intended giving them only 3 wheel chairs and food items but when he left, I went in and prayed, and the holy spirit ministered to me that I should not buy 3 clutches but I should empty my account completely and ensure that I extend the help." He said

 "It was strange but the passion keeps coming, so I said it's the will of God.

So I emptied my account and send for 15 first grade wheelchairs which cost more than N100,000  each,  78 clutches,  10bags of Rice, sovenaire gifts, polo T-shirts, and cash gifts."

He explained that muslim faithfuls and other religious groups also benefitted from the welfare programme 

"  So I came up with a theme : "One God, different religions", to inculcate different beliefs, background and other religions into worshipping God without discriminating.

 "We did rallies and brought in disables from communities around us, some beneficiaries were Muslims, traditional worshipers, and christians."

"When I saw them on the road side, I asked my self how I can touch their lives, I told myself I must do something about it, I called one that is closed to me who is from my village." 

"when I told him that the Lord led in my spirit to remember them, he said something that shocked me, he said no body has ever remembered them, that they walked around in the village as abandoned project."

 Apostle Elijah wondered how some people feel to pile up wealth for their grand children forgetting that everyone must give account of his action to God, how you helped the poor.

 He explained that he has been discouraged by some people from giving as they claim that he would become poor soon noting that he would not care to be poor if only he can put smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

"My advise is that everybody should try and see how he can put smile on the faces of the less privileged.

"I don't care to become poor and I know God won't allow me to lack food to eat with my family. Giving is an instruction from God and it is not restricted to certain people." He said.

Asked what he intends to achieve by that kind of life style or has a political ambition, he simply said, "nothing, absolutely nothing because I'm not going into politics. Or want people to like me, but I always feel relieved each time I do this I don't want anything from anybody. This is not politics. Giving is biblical and I fill fulfilled to do what I'm doing."

One of the beneficiaries,Kingsely Amos Nkanta, non member of the church said he only came to see what will be given to others that were members of the church but Fortunately, a wheelchair and cash was given to him, that was his happiest day he prayed that God Almighty should bless Apostle Jack with his heart desires, and make him a blessing to this generation and beyond.

Also Uwemedimo from Ikot esido, Onna, a non  said, "Today is a very wonderful day for me, I thank God that I am a beneficiary, I am grateful to God and to Apostle Jack, I pray that God will bless Apostle Jack and make him hundred fold greater than this, so that he can extend help to others."

SENATE 2023: Ekong Sampson has right Legislative edge for the job - Gov's Udom's Aide

Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Project Monitoring, Joe Akpan has on Sunday declared that Dr Ekong Sampson has the 'right legislative edge' that will be of immense benefit to the people of Eket Senatorial District if he is given the mandate to represent the district in the Nigerian Senate come 2023.

Former two term Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has emerged as one of the hot favorites to clinch party's ticket for the Eket Senate seat since declaring his intention to run earlier in the week.

Barring his mind on Ekong's chances and appeal, the Governor's Aide who has known Dr Sampson well over the years said he was the man with the right qualities to represent Eket Senatorial District.

   'Ekong Sampson is imbued with the right legislative edge for the Senate job when you consider his legislative antecedents. 

And what is this edge that Barr. Sampson possess? The Red Chamber is all about lawmaking and here is someone who not only has a Ph.D in Law, but a former two term Member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. With this background, there is nothing that will be discussed at the Red Chamber that he will not have a good knowledge of'.

  'He will be able to draw up legislations and argue for or against laws that will have rich benefits for Eket Senatorial District.

Ekong Sampson has an enormous wealth of experience in legislative business and I support and stand with him wholeheartedly', the Governor's aide affirmed.

Hon. Joe Akpan was equally full of praises for Governor Udom Emmanuel for sustaining the peace and unity of Eket Senatorial District by giving credence to the time tested zoning arrangement. He also thanked Eket Senatorial District Leaders for their stance on Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency to produce the next senator for the district. With Ikot Abasi State Constituency having already produced Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, who served for eight years between 1999 - 2007, this time around favours Mkpat Enin in natural rotation and equity.

Rt Hon Barr Ekong Sampson PhD former commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources

A former Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political, Legislative and Water Resources, Dr. Ekong Sampson, has joined the race for the South Senatorial District.

Sampson, the former commissioner for Environment and Petroleum Resources, and a two terms legislative, who represented Mkpat Enin Constituency in the House of Assembly, said having worked as an aide to Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma between 1999 and 2007 he was versed in the workings of the Senate

Sampson disclosed this yesterday at Ikot Abasi Local Government after his endorsement by stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Eket Senatorial District that the Senate was an institution driven by capacity and experience and required people with mental range, pace and deep understanding of the complexities and pluralistic nature of Nigeria.

He said if given the opportunity, he would use the Senate as a major bridge building component to build bridges among the pluralities in the district.

Akwa Ibom Youths Reject Emmanuel’s Successor, Backs Luke

A youth group in Akwa Ibom under the auspices of Akwa Ibom Youth Mandate has opposed the endorsement of Lands and Water Resources Commissioner Pastor Umoh Eno by Governor Udom Emmanuel in preference for a young person, which they have yearned for.

They have also made a case for the election of a youth as Governor of the state in next year’s general election 2023.

In a statement made available to newsmen yesterday in Uyo and endorsed by Comrade Victor Thompson, the group expressed displeasure over the Governor’s choice. 

They outlined the qualities of a young person they would want to include someone with a proven track record of selfless services,We need someone who has grown through the ranks, someone with passion for youth development and someone with experience.

“Yesterday we were met in the news that stakeholders of Akwa Ibom State have come together to choose a successor for 6 million people in the population of Akwa Ibom State and we wondered why that was so? 

“But as youths, as people who have been made with direct impact of every government policies, every government decisions, every situations and every happenings, we believe we should have a say on who should be our governor and who should lead us in the next election cycle. 

“The stakeholders have given us a direction and have told us that, it is possible to anoint an adopt a candidate. As young people, we feel it is also possible to anoint and adopt our own candidate.” The statement said. 

 “That being said, we have come to a decision that at this point, we are not going to throw away our elders, we are not going to fight our elders and we are not going to kick out our elders but we are only going to tell our elders to give us a chance to grow as a young people. 

“We have assessed and examined the process of leadership recruitment in Akwa Ibom State, we have examined and assessed every aspirants that is seeking to occupy the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State and we have come to a conclusion that it is only one person that meets our criteria, “We have come to a conclusion that it is only one person we all yearn for who will be the governor of the people by the people and for the people and that is in the person of Rt. Hon. barr. Onofiok Akpan Luke.

 ” I believe that the majority of Akwa Ibom youths agrees with me that with Onofiok Luke in the seat of the governor, we are going to breathe fresh air, we are going to experience a turnaround in the politics, governance and development of Akwa Ibom State. 

“With that being said, we, Akwa Ibom Youth Mandate here by declare Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Akpan Luke our full support to run for the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State.Let us rise up and stand together as young people of Akwa Ibom and stand together to reject imposition of foreign candidate against the will of the people.” It said.

Reaction Trails over Gov Udom's preferred successor

Choice of successor in the history of Akwa Ibom state has never been an easy task as the people's choices most times are always overlooked, the incumbent would always want to install a successor they felt to be their best for the state and as such the good people of the state were surprise as Governor Udom Emmanuel announced Umo Eno, his commissioner for lands and water resources as his preferred successor. 

Since the announcement was made, the people have reacted with different opinions on the choice even though he will still have to go through the primaries of the party to emerge as its flag bearer and why he was chosen.

First to react was Onofiok Akpan Luke, a member of the House of Representatives, himself a governorship aspirant who said he was present at the stakeholders meeting but was never informed about the agenda.

According to him, he honoured the invitation from the governor “out of respect and as a loyal party man. I honoured an innocent invitation from the governor for a meeting this evening at the lodge,” adding that “Umo Eno was presented as the choice of the governor for succession.”

“It was at the said meeting that I heard of the agenda and choice for the first time and no one held any discussion with me prior to the meeting;

“I am not against the choice of the governor coming from my local government, federal constituency nor the aspiration of my brother.

“However, as a fellow aspirant from the same local government at the same advantage when successful, my aspiration to serve the state in the capacity of governor remains on course.”He urged his supporters to note that “we are as resolute as ever in our desire to give our people purposeful leadership in the office of the governor come 2023.”

Also, another aspirant, Ezekiel Nya Etok congratulated Eno on his selection as the governor’s successor but advised him to “keep your eyes on the ball as there is still primaries of your party that will greatly determine the strength of the army that you will use to face the real election battle.”

Nya Etok who said he would be contesting on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged other aspirants to align or continue with their aspiration, saying the governor had the choice to stay neutral or have his preferred aspirant.

“Just as much as you should respect the right of the governor, he also must respect your right to agree or disagree with him,” saying it “will be the first major step of the PDP in conflict management.”

According to reports, it was former governor Victor Attah who presented Umo Eno during the stakeholders meeting where he was eventually unveiled as Udom’s success.

Harry Udoh, Chairman, Civil Society Organisations, Akwa Ibom State, said it is within the governor's remit to support whoever he wants and that's not the choice of Akwa Ibom people. 

Udoh said in this 21st century, that it is fallacy for the governor to say that God revealed his successor, postulating God as a politician.

He solicited that the governor should give his people chance to make their choice of leadership, adding that every one has dreams and purpose.

"There's still the primary election to be won and theirs still the general election to be won. Anybody can choose anybody, it is left for the people to decide, I think that's what democracy is all about. The governor can go ahead and dream the dreams he wants and see visions he wants but that is not the dream and vision of the people. The people have to decide at the end of who should be governor. We can't argue with the governor, I have my dreams and visions too likewise every other persons.

"Things are changing, society is evolving the way,  we used to do elections in time past is no longer like that elections are different today, people are being more conscious, there is a heightened interest in what is happening in the polity. There used to be imposition but now I see a strong battle for that position Even in the time past there were upheavals .

"The governor is not saying I chose this one based on his antecedent or what he can do but based on what God told him, in this 21st century? that is the fallacy to 'appeal to authority,' that is just reducing God to politician. I don't have any problem with the Umo Eno but the governor's posturing is unpalatable." He said
